Our Spotlight Dog For April 2024
Meet Chuckles!
Joel and Nancy took Chuckles in as a 5 year old rescue pup. Chuckles gets to live with a housemate named KiKi, who is also amazing.
When I first met her (yep Chuckles is a girl) she would not allow anyone to pet her. She was nervous and shy, and cowered when approached, but I could see her curiosity and I believed she could learn to overcome some of her fears.
She started coming to Agility For Fun and over the course of several weeks they worked on the obstacles and soon she was going over the A-Frame and running through tunnels. She was doing the course along with her dad and you could tell they were both having fun!
She started to overcome some of her nervousness. Every week she had the opportunity to mingle with the other people and their dogs, get lots of yummy treats, and learn that the world is okay.
Now that Agility is over for this season, she and her humans are the perfect example of how a dog can turn the corner with consistent exposure and patience. This season helped Chuckles be much more comfortable around other people and dogs in the class and I am so pleased that I can approach her and give her pets now and she truly enjoys the interactions and my treats dont hurt either.
Really great job Joel, Nancy and little Chucks…This is what it’s all about for us and me personally. Getting to watch this little girl’s growth is the most fulfilling thing there is about my job. Thank you so much for sharing Chuckles (and Kiki) with us!
