CBD products are beneficial for both dogs and cats.
In this post, we take a closer look at the specific ways
natural CBD can help support your pet’s well-being!
Welcome to Part Two of our CBD series; if you missed Part One, you can read it here.
Just a few quick reminders from our first blog post:
- Hemp is NOT marijuana.
- Hemp contains only trace amounts of THC (the natural chemical compound which makes the user “high”).
- CBD is NOT marijuana and does not offer a “high.”
- CBD products (with less than .3% THC) are legal in all 50 states in the U.S.
- CBD offers a natural medical alternative without the toxic, harmful side effects of pharmaceuticals.
- While CBD products offer a variety of health benefits, remember every pet is different and actual results will vary. Work with your regular vet or an integrative/holistic vet and always start with small dosages.
CBD: Potential Health Benefits
Your pet’s wellness and natural balance (both physically and mentally) can be supported by the active CBD medicinal compound called cannabidiol for a variety of conditions for both canines and felines.

Forms of CBD for Dogs and Cats:
- Extracts and Oils:
- In the mouth
- Added to food
- On a treat
- Rubbed into bare skin
- Rubbed inside the ears
- On the paws
- Biscuits
- Capsules & Gel Caps
- Topical Ointments
- Tinctures (alcohol-based cannabis extracts that are not as potent as oil extracts)
Suggested Dosages: Dogs and Cats
While CBD is toxic-free and poses little to no danger of overdosing, it’s important to start with the lowest dosage and then find your pet’s “sweet spot” where they are feeling the desired effect with the smallest amount.
Giving your dog or cat CBD products is generally safe; but there can be some gastrointestinal upset, mild sedation and increased appetite in cats. Discontinue giving your pet CBD if they experience any of these negative effects.
CBD: Dosage Guides
Benefits from CBD can occur within 30 minutes or may require more than one treatment. For pain relief, give CBD every 8 hours and for other uses, once or twice a day (or whatever is recommended by your veterinarian).

CBD: Variations
- Full-Spectrum: These products are the least refined and have the greatest amount of beneficial plant matter (as in cannabinoids and terpenes). Negative: has a strong grassy flavor that some pets may not like.
- Isolate: These products are the most refined option, is pure CBD with no plant matter (therefore no taste).
- Distillate: These products fall in the middle with just enough plant compound material with a mild taste.
CBD: Final Reminder
In bears repeating, when purchasing CBD products, always make sure they are:
- Made in the USA
- All-natural and Organic
- 100% Hempseed Oil/Extract
- 100% Human-Grade
- Free of Artificial Flavors and/or Preservatives
